Mandatory course for all grade 6 students as prescribed by Alberta Education.
Instruction is in English.
Introductory wind band class taught two times per week for 35 minutes each class.
Students learn basic music theory and develop basic rhythm techniques throughout the school year.
Students will learn a minimum of five notes on their instrument of choice.
Students to select from the following instruments: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone/Euphonium, Tuba, Percussion.
Students perform two concerts during the school year.
Optional course available to all grade 7 students.
Full-year option class (occupies both semester 1 and 2 of one option slot).

Students develop skills established in grade 6 or new students will establish basic skills on the instrument of their choice.
Students will explore music in 4/4, 3/4, and 2/4 time in the keys of Concert B-Flat, E-Flat, A-Flat, and F Major.
Students perform two school concerts during the school year.

This course relies on skills and techniques learned in Instrumental Music 7. Students who have not taken Instrumental Music 7 are strongly encouraged to take private lessons prior to starting Instrumental Music 8.

Students develop more advanced skills on the instrument of their choice.
Students will explore music in various duple and compound time signatures in the keys of Concert C, F, B-Flat, E-Flat, A-Flat, D-Flat, G, and D Major.
Students perform two school concerts during the school year.
Field trip opportunities.

The Music 30 final mark can be used in most post-secondary applications for most faculties.
Students who participate in Music 10-20-30 at their respective high school may have opportunities to register and participate in extra credit ensembles such as Jazz Band 15-25-35 and Honour Band depending on if these courses are offered.
