Students who continue to pursue music throughout junior high and high school have opportunities to apply for and potentially win scholarships to help them further their studies in the post-secondary world. While some high schools may have music scholarships available for a nominated music student, there are other forms of scholarships available that students can apply for or even talk to their high school teacher about.
Sponsored by: Troy Turner and the Cosmopolitan Music Society
Eligible Students: Any music student in grade 12
Background Information:
At the Cosmopolitan Music Society, we believe that musicianship is a life-long activity that should not stop simply because you have turned 18 or finished high school. We want everyone to have the opportunity to sing and play instruments well into their senior years!
As part of our mission to build life-long communities through music, we are instituting The Cosmopolitan Music Awards for exceptional Grade 12 jazz band, concert band and choral students who demonstrate musical excellence and service to the community.
Our scholarships would not be possible without the incredible sponsorship from Dr. Troy Turner. Dr. Turner is a physician at the Stollery Children's Hospital, and a long time euphonium and baritone player in multiple community bands here in Edmonton.
The scholarship includes: $250 bursary and a one-year membership to the Cosmopolitan Music Society ensemble of choice (approx. value $450), totalling $700. Winners can choose from any of our ensembles which include multiple jazz and concert bands, handbells and a mixed chorus.
The school of the winning students receives a beautiful plaque to display for the year and the student will be given a lovely certificate to recognize their achievement.
